Diploma Thesis Turned 20

Time to defend it

March 25, 2026

My Diploma thesis turned 20 years old on the 6th of March 2026. In 2006 the Bologna reform was still not implemented at University of Bremen and hence I received a diploma in Chemistry which would be called a Master of Science these days.  I thought this anniversary would be a fun occasion to present my thesis to my current colleagues at Chalmers University and so I did just that. There were even more people interested than I first anticipated and I even received a card and flowers. This can be a really nice opportunity to show to students how a thesis looked twenty years ago and that also the now supervisors or seniors did by far not do everything "correct" from the start (which would imply that this happens now...well). I also was amazed how the topic and technology behind what I was writing about had developed in the last two decades. I write a bit about the project in this entry hereLooking back, I think that I learned really a lot during that time, even tough the results may not have been groundbreaking or amazing. But it certainly helped on the way of becoming a scientist and I thank my supervisors for that.
